USS Pittsburg

Here's a photo of the Marine Detachment of the USS Pittsburgh CA72 (heavy cruiser) taken in the
Mediterranean Sea, probably in Late 1953 or very early 1954 when she was the flag ship for
Admiral Jerald Wright, CINCLANT.

I'll send along a photo of the ship also from the same era. The Pittsburgh did it's last cruise in the
Pacific in 1955 and was subsequently decommissioned at Bremerton WA and a few years later
sold for scrap. She was a beautiful ship.

I served on her in both the Atlantic and Pacific and was transferred from Sea Duty at Treasure Island
to FMFLant HQ in NorVA. I never saw so much MC brass in my life as that place had. :-))
